It’s really no surprise that the fall of 2020 is shaping up to be a little different than the fall seasons of years past. Special events and traditions are either put on hold, modified, or canceled altogether. While disappointing, this can also be a good time to start new traditions with your family or take advantage of a slower life season to try something new. Even in Southeast Kansas, there are still great activities that are Covid-approved this season!

Let’s start with a list of upcoming local activities to consider:

Coffeyville

  • The Midland Theatre is still hosting its Outdoor Movie nights.  They are scheduled for Friday, Oct 2 + Fri Oct 9th at 8pm.

  • Cedar Bluff Camp is hosting their Night of Fright Spook Trail on four nights this October!
Friday, October 23rd- Saturday, October 24th
Friday, October 30th- Saturday, October 31st
All trails will be open from 7:30pm-11pm

  • The Spooktacular Trick or Treating event will be held in Downtown Coffeyville on October 26th from 4:30pm-6:00pm

Independence

  • On Thursdays, the Fall Farmer’s Market is held from 3:00-6:30 in the parking lot on Chestnut & 8th. Be sure to swing by to grab all your fall goodies from local vendors!

Another cool new local spot, Indy Brew Works in Independence, features a new fall flavor, Basic Witch Pumpkin Ale, that would be great to try at one of their Thursday Night Trivia events or out on the patio on a beautiful fall afternoon or evening!

On the other hand, it’s totally ok if you don’t feel like venturing out during this season, so here are some fun ideas to consider if you are staying home!

  • Carve Pumpkins

  • Do a fall-themed craft like making a wreath for your door

  • Try baking a new fall recipe or bake a classic apple pie

  • Camp out in the backyard and have a bonfire

  • Roast marshmallows in your firepit on the patio

  • Make some cider and watch Hocus Pocus or another Halloween movie

  • Learn how to make your own PSL or Chai Tea Latte

  • Sit outdoors and enjoy a book in the nice, fall air.

If you think there is a fun or cool fall activity we may have missed, please let us know in the comments! We would love to add some variety to our list and we always want to include as many local things as possible to share with our followers. We hope you stay safe and healthy this season!
